John 14:27 Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid. NIV
I love this scripture and the peace that Jesus promises us. In John 14:27-29 NLT says this, 27 “I am leaving you with a gift—peace of mind and heart. And the peace I give is a gift the world cannot give. So don’t be troubled or afraid. 28 Remember what I told you: I am going away, but I will come back to you again. If you really loved me, you would be happy that I am going to the Father, who is greater than I am. 29 I have told you these things before they happen so that when they do happen, you will believe. How amazing is it that before Jesus ascends to Heaven, he tells us that he’s leaving us with a gift as if his dying on the cross for our sins and an eternal life isn’t enough?! That’s our Lord! He’s selfless, always giving, always present, always reassuring.
He then says that this is the type of peace we will never be able to find anywhere else but through him! Sometimes when we are in a tough season we think our peace comes from our friends or from a substance, sometimes we could get to a place of lack and vulnerability that we forget where we can draw our peace and joy from. As you reflect on this scripture, ask yourself, “when was the last time, I asked for the gift of God’s peace? Do I need his peace right now in this season? Or how can I always remind myself to live in this peace of mind and heart?”
Let’s stay encouraged that even when times are tough, or when our plans don’t happen the way we envisioned it, let’s trust that God’s peace is enough to feed our hearts and minds. Let’s be the type of believers that exuberate so much peace in our lives that when people come across us in difficult seasons, they ask or wonder, how to receive this type of peace. Let’s always break forth peace!
Lord, I thank you for today. I thank you for this gift of peace you so easily give to us. That though you’ve already given us the ultimate gift, you still choose to remind us that we have full access to your heart. I pray that today in every season, we would walk in this perfect peace. I pray we would remember that feeling of wholeness of peace and comfort, you show us every day. Remind us that you always come through and that we can trust in you in every season! Thank you for what you’re doing in our lives and the new peace that is coming our way! We love you and we honor you, in Jesus’ Name, Amen.
